Welcome to Safe Haven Homeschooling
This is a place where you can safely ask questions about homeschooling. And you will be gently encouraged to try new things in your homeschool and break out of the box of schoolish type thinking. Relax and enjoy the journey with me and my family. We are learning together every day. We learn from each other, we learn from nature, we learn from life, and we learn from great books.
The Charlotte Mason philosophy is the closest match to what we do here at Safe Haven. If you have never heard of her approach, there will be posts that explain her ideas and how we incorporate them. If you would like to adapt your homeschool to a Charlotte Mason style, this would be a good place to find a gentle approach to adding Charlotte Mason concepts little by little.
We are also very focused on building a warm, loving family culture here at Safe Haven. We talk a lot about relationships and identity and perspective and getting along with each other and those that we meet outside of our family.
We come from a perspective that life is only as good as you make it. So our goal is to help other homeschool families cover the most important concepts and to do it in a way that is sustainable and enjoyable and lasting.
All we need to do is place children in a large room spread with an abundant feast of learning.

Safe Haven Homeschooling is Family Schooling
My twin passions are Family and Homeschooling. I love learning along with my children (and my husband), and I love encouraging others to live life with their families every day in the most present and intentional way possible – through homeschooling.
I believe in strong families. I believe that we can build the strongest families by living life together. We share time together reading aloud, taking nature walks together, working and playing together, talking and sharing what we’re learning, and solving relationship problems together.
I am trying to build a family culture and identity. I want everyone in my family to feel important, significant, cared for and loved. I want them to be glad to be a part of our family and feel like they belong to something good that has purpose and a mission to make the world a better place.
If any of this resonates with you, then please come back often, and share with us what you are doing in your family to inculcate these values and walk out these

I am Penney Douglas. I’m a wife, mother, homeschooler, friend, and daughter of the King. I’ve been married to Gary for 30 years. We have 10 kids. They are all special and unique! Their ages range from 28 to 10, and 6 of them are girls, with 4 boys feeling outnumbered but not outwitted. We have lived in 5 different states, but we’re still looking for that place to call home. We are on a journey that is changing and refining us in every way. Our homeschooling is a very important part of our journey. And we have only been able to live this life as well as we have because of the homeschooling lifestyle.
